Fall is a season filled with beauty, change, and an invitation to slow down. The crisp air, colorful leaves, and cozy evenings remind us...

Today is a music-themed blog post for you all. It wasn’t planned, it just happened organically. This blog post is so authentic that I’m a little nervous to share it with you, so here it is.
It’s been a busy week, and Friday was wholeheartedly welcomed this morning. I knew I had to write a blog post about gratitude today, yet I was drawing a blank. The words just weren’t flowing easily from my fingertips. On my way in to work I heard Dan Bremnes’ song Where The Light Is on UCB Radio right before the 9am news. I’ve heard it before but today was somehow different. It really spoke to me.
I’ve been looking for daylight
you’re my daylight
lead me where the light is
Now, I didn’t grow up in the church like Dan Bremnes did. I wasn’t raised on the gospel, trained in the Word either and that’s OK. Through song, He still wants to speak to me. Wow.
God be with me, don’t know where I’m going
Will You lead me where the light is?
I’ve been living in the dark, I’ve been looking for daylight
You’re my daylight
God gives us the tools, but we must pay attention. If we have an open heart to receive them, He gives us what we need. As I watched the YouTube video for Where the Light Is once I got to work, Brandon Lake’s song Gratitude played right after it. What? How amazing that there is a Christian song that speaks directly to my blog post playing for me right then? Thank you, Lord!
All my words fall short
I got nothing new
How could I express
All my gratitude?
That’s exactly how I was feeling. I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t know what to write. As I reflect on these words while the music fills my body with warmth (that’s literally how it felt like - I’m not even musically-inclined to being honest), I realize that it’s OK to not have all the words because He loves me and moves me even without them. How amazing is that?
So I throw up my hands
And praise You again and again
‘Cause all that I have is a hallelujah
Hallelujah
With the warmth of God’s presence running through my veins in song I’m moved to express my love for Him, which is a big deal for me as I am a shy person by nature. Yet, I started singing out loud in the car! Were people looking at me funny? Were they pointing and staring? I didn’t care.
So come on, my soul
Oh, don’t you get shy on me
Lift up your song
‘Cause you’ve got a lion inside of those lungs
Get up and praise the Lord
My heart now being filled with love and hope in Jesus I know that I can’t let it stay stuck inside me. I must get over myself and openly share this love.
I’ve got one response
I’ve got just one move
With my arm stretched wide
I will worship You
So, this morning while I was stuck for words, by lunchtime I’m filled with gratitude for God’s light. I’m thankful that He gives me all that I need, which is His grace.
So I throw up my hands
And praise You again and again
‘Cause all that I have is a hallelujah
Hallelujah
