Last week was a heavy news week.
When the News Feels Heavy
With storms and wildfires raging across Northern Ontario and other parts of Canada—as well as the northern United States—families have been forced from their homes, wildlife has been displaced, and beautiful landscapes continue to be devastated by flames. It’s hard not to carry the weight of it all.
As I drove to work this morning, those thoughts were still on my mind.
Then something unexpected happened.
The Right Song at the Right Time
Ryan Stevenson’s Eye of the Storm began playing on UCB Radio.
It felt like one of those moments when God gently reminded me that He sees exactly where I am.
“In the eye of the storm, You remain in control.”
Those words spoke directly to what I was feeling.
We often talk about hearing the right song at the right time and how God meets us where we are. This was one of those moments for me. As the song continued, another line reached straight into the heaviness I had been carrying:
“Your love surrounds me in the eye of the storm.”
The words brought me to tears—so much so that I had to pull the car over and wipe my eyes. Had my car stereo come with a replay button, I would have pressed it over and over.
God Meets Us in the Storm
The storms we face don’t always look the same. Sometimes they’re wildfires, severe weather, or circumstances beyond our control. Other times, they’re the quiet fears and worries we carry inside.
But even in the middle of the storm, God remains our anchor. He may not immediately remove what is happening around us, but He promises to remain with us through it.
Praying for those Affected
Today, let’s continue to pray for everyone affected by this summer’s wildfires—for families who have been displaced, for firefighters, for volunteers, for the wildlife, and for every community waiting for rain.
One of our listeners on Facebook shared this simple prayer with us:
“Praying for rain, safety, and comfort for families, wildlife, and firefighters. You are not alone.”
Amen.
If you’re walking through a storm of your own today, I hope you’re reminded that God is near. Sometimes He speaks through Scripture. Sometimes through a friend. And sometimes... through the right song at exactly the right moment.
Maybe today, this song will be that reminder for you. If you’d like to hear Eye of the Storm by Ryan Stevenson, you can watch it below:
