Sometimes the most life-changing moments begin in ways we could never predict. A simple invitation, a new friendship, or a week away at camp can become the starting point of a journey that shapes the rest of a person's life. For Tyler, our Promotions Lead (Western Markets) that journey began at Bible camp when he was 12 years old. What started as an opportunity to make friends and fit in became the beginning of a faith story that continues to unfold today. As we celebrate the impact of UCB Radio's Hope Together – Send a Kid to Camp campaign, Tyler shares how Bible camp changed his life and why giving children the opportunity to experience faith, community, and hope can make an eternal difference.
More Than Just A Week at Bible Camp
When I was 12, I wanted to be cool, popular, and have lots of friends, deep down I also wanted desperately to be loved and accepted. So, when my new friend invited me to Bible Camp, I was excited to have fun and just maybe this would be my chance.
Looking back to my first summer at camp, 12 year old me could not have possibly realized that this would be the “TSN turning point;” Bible Camp introduced me to friends, community, and more importantly, faith in Jesus Christ. I didn’t place my faith in Jesus that summer, but it was the beginning of complete transformation that continues today.
The Nominations are In
Over the last 2 years, UCB Radio has received almost 200 nominations for kids like me and kids who are experiencing all kinds of challenges as they walk through difficult seasons. Kids were nominated by their friends, neighbours, parents, and family members. It's in incredible to read the nominations and realize that these kids could get the opportunity to hear all about the Hope that is found in the Good News of Jesus. Here’s the summary of a few nominations from this year:
“One nominee has overcome major family hardship and instability at a young age, yet continues to show compassion and resilience. Camp would give her a rare opportunity for joy, friendship, and encouragement.”
“After experiencing family loss and major life changes, one young girl is growing deeply in her faith and preparing for baptism. Camp would help her build friendships and confidence during a season of transition.”
“A faithful family who serves regularly in their church would love the opportunity for their children to experience Bible camp, but finances have made it difficult. This sponsorship could open that door.”
“One young girl attended camp for the first time after arriving in Canada and came home encouraged and full of faith. Her family hopes she can return this summer for another life-changing experience.”
Thank you, Tyler, for sharing your story and reminding us how meaningful a week at Bible camp can be. We’re grateful for your heart for this campaign and for the kids it will impact.
The Heart of the Campaign
At UCB Radio, we believe in the power of hope, community, and transformation. That’s why we launched “Hope Together – Send a Kid to Camp,” a campaign designed to give children across Canada a life-changing summer Bible Camp experience.
For many kids, attending camp is more than just fun, it’s an opportunity to grow in faith, make lifelong friendships, and experience the love of Jesus in a special way. However, financial barriers often stand in the way. This initiative aims to remove those barriers and provide children with an unforgettable summer.
It’s All in the Details
This spring, caring people submitted nominations for kids who could be encouraged by a week of Bible camp and have the cost sponsored by the camps. Then, we partnered with the camps to select a camper to attend their camp. Some of our camp partners even decided to select multiple nominations so that more and more kids would be blessed.
Good News and Great Summer
Do you remember the first Bible Verse you ever memorized? Or the first time you felt like you belonged? Or what about the first time you realized that Jesus Christ died for your sins? For me, and thousands of other kids across Canada every summer, the answer to all three questions is: Bible Camp. There’s a lot going on in our world these days and our kids need hope now more then ever. This summer, our Bible Camp partners have helped us send 17 kids to camp. Join me in praying for them, that they would truly know that they would be transformed by the Gospel, encouraged in community, and truly know and understand what it means when “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life…” (John 14:6).
