A Christmas Miracle for Laura in Thunder Bay

Hope Together This Christmas

Each year during the Christmas season, UCB Radio helps provide comfort & hope for people that are walking through some really tough seasons through our Hope Together This Christmas campaign. We’re working with community partners and local supporters to make each surprise possible. This week we are revealing the miracles—starting with Laura’s family from Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Laura is the kind of mom whose love never runs out—big enough for her six kids, and even two more from a previous relationship. Life hasn’t been gentle, though. Last year, her world shifted when her husband suddenly walked away, leaving her to navigate everything alone. With the steady support of her parents, Karin and Gord, and her caring church community, Laura kept going, held together by faith, grit, and love.

Just as hope began to peek through again, heartbreak struck. Gord, Laura’s dad (and her rock) passed away unexpectedly. The loss rippled through the whole family and church, leaving everyone stunned and grieving.

“We’re just taking it day by day, and like my mum said—we need a miracle, and this is ours this year.”

Hope Together This Christmas

Karin knew she couldn’t take away the pain, but she could bring a little light back into her daughter’s life. Remembering UCB’s Hope Together This Christmas, she decided it was time to nominate Laura and the kids for a Christmas miracle.

“This year, we didn’t think things could get any worse—but they did,” Karin said. “So I decided, that’s it. I’m going to nominate. Last year Laura said, ‘I really need a Christmas miracle.’”

This year, thanks to UCB Radio and our amazing Miracle Partners, and UCB Donors like you, that miracle arrived.
