Thunder Bay unites in prayer on the third Thursday of each month

In dark times, it’s easy to give up. It almost feels therapeutic.

It’s like when the Apostle Peter was in jail and everyone knew that he was going to be executed the next day. But they decided to gather to pray anyways. And Peter decided to sleep while chained between two soldiers. If you haven’t read the story I don’t want to spoil it, so I’ll pause for a moment while you read chapter 12 of Luke’s book about “the Acts of the Apostles”.

Okay, you’re good? Hilarious, isn’t it!? Like, Peter gets busted out of jail in the middle of the night while he’s thinking it could only be a dream. And then when he realizes it really happened and finds his friends' house, they won't open the door. Instead, they’re arguing about whether or not their prayer could actually have been answered.

But that little flicker of hope that maybe God could do it was all it took. It’s like God loves to move in response to our prayers, even if we’re not sure that he will.

Do you believe it? Can God bring good out of anything? Will he? The bold promise that the Apostle Paul shares with us goes even further – he will bring good out of everything – for everyone who wants in on what he’s doing! (See his book to the Romans, chapter 8, verse 28.)

So if God likes bringing good out of everything in response to our prayers, let’s pray!

I’ve been inspired by a number of local individuals who have made this their motto. I’m thinking of the people who started the “Thunder Bay – United in Prayer” facebook page a year ago that now has over 900 members. I’m thinking of others who started the 200-member Healthcare/EMS Regional Prayer Chain for the hospital and regularly gather people to pray over everything going on there.

And now we’ve joined together to hold a prayer event on the third Thursday of each month from 7 to 7:30pm. Yup, just a half hour. You can join over the phone or by zoom – you just need to register first by clicking here.

We have a few people leading in prayer as a large group, and we’ll spend some time split into small groups for prayer as well.

God is on the move! He is shining light in the darkness – and he’d like to do it through you.

Do you want in?
